FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK

"Toastmasters International"- An organization I first heard about in my first week as a fresher in Mangalore SEZ Campus, but the thought of sharing my views in a public forum and learning the ropes of leadership seemed too intimidating. However every interaction with the members of the club peaked my interest.

It was only when I eventually made it to a meeting as a guest my fears were allayed. The room was filled with members who treated each other like family and the guests felt like they had known these people for ages. It was hours spent learning about oneself, learning your limitations and your strengths rather than speaking to a group of unknown faces. The confidence shown by this family makes it easier to take more responsibilities & lead with confidence.

This a reluctant guest stepped up to be the President of the club. In an era when promises are made easily and broken as quickly, the club never promises to make you a better speaker or leader. Our club has only worked hard to provide every member and guest a conducive environment to discover themselves, to grow as individuals, a space void of prejudice , a room to unwind, unlearn and relearn and a platform to voice their true opinions. The fact that this eventually shapes individuals as better speakers or leaders is merely as side effect.

In a world where we measure every word we speak its hard to come across individuals who dint judge but rather nurture your individuality. This club has been that safe haven, a home away from home. The place that truly reminds me each day-

"I speak therefore I am"
